JadePeak is a video player for Apple TV that plays files from the shares and servers on your own network. It collects no personal information, contains no ads, no tracking, and no analytics, and does not require an account.
The short version
JadePeak talks to your server and to nothing else. There is no JadePeak server, no telemetry, and no metadata lookup. We (the developer) receive no data from the app, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.
Information we collect
None. JadePeak has no account system, no login, and no backend. We cannot see what you store, browse, or play.
Data stored on your device
To work as a player, JadePeak saves the following on your Apple TV:
- The sources you add — host, share or export name, and the name you gave it
- Any files you send to the Apple TV over your wifi, in the app’s cache directory
- Poster-frame thumbnails, generated on the device into its cache
- App settings and preferences
Your share passwords are stored in the system Keychain. Deleting the app removes all of this.
JadePeak does not record what you watch. There are no playback positions, no watched state and no viewing history — not on the device, and nowhere else, because there is nowhere else.
Network use
JadePeak’s network traffic never leaves your local network:
- SMB and NFS connections to the servers you configure, to browse and read your files
- DLNA/UPnP requests to the media servers you add — browsing, poster art, and playback all come from the server’s own address on your network
- Bonjour and SSDP discovery on your local network, to find those servers so you do not have to type IP addresses
- An upload page, served by the app on your local network so you can send files to the Apple TV from a browser on the same wifi. It runs only while the upload screen is open, it requires a four-digit PIN shown on the TV, and it accepts nothing from outside your network
- A loopback connection on the Apple TV itself, which never leaves the device — it exists so the system player can read from a network share, which it otherwise cannot do
tvOS will ask for Local Network permission the first time. That permission is what makes finding and reading your own servers possible; JadePeak has no use for it beyond that.
No internet services
JadePeak does not scrape metadata, fetch artwork, check for content online, or contact any third-party service. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
Children’s privacy
JadePeak does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because no data is collected or transmitted, there is nothing for us to store or expose.
Data retention and deletion
All JadePeak data lives on your Apple TV. To delete it, delete the app. Removing a source also removes its saved password from the Keychain, and Settings shows how much space uploaded files are using and can delete them all. Uploads and thumbnails sit in the app’s cache directory, which tvOS may itself purge when the device runs short of space.
