What is the Neural Response Score?

It is a single number from 0 to 1000 summarising how quickly and accurately you respond. A 90-second calibration establishes it. Reflex carries most of the weight, with memory, perception, and focus contributing from your recent runs across the four systems. Scores you set more than a week ago age out, so the number reflects you now rather than your best day ever.

Why is my score different from other reaction-time tests?

Because most of them are partly measuring themselves. A test built on ordinary app timers includes its own overhead in your result. Layra takes stimulus onset from the display’s frame clock — the exact frame that draws the stimulus — and takes your response from the raw touch event, so what is left is much closer to just you.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Every screen works in airplane mode, including The Daily, and no measurement you make is ever uploaded. Two features do use a connection when you have one: the optional Game Center leaderboard, whose score submissions queue until you are back online, and the ads between runs, which are simply not requested when you are offline.

Why am I seeing ads, and how often?

Layra is free, and the ads pay for it. One appears on the way out of a finished run — never during one, and never while you are being timed — at most once per three completed runs and no sooner than 90 seconds after the last. A fresh install finishes two runs before it meets one. The ad SDK is not started at all until a run has already ended, so it cannot take time away from the measurement.

Can I turn off personalised ads?

Yes. iOS asks your permission before any tracking, and declining changes nothing else about the app. Where Google’s consent form applies, you can reopen your choices any time at Settings → Ad privacy in the app, and you can limit ad personalisation system-wide under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. How does The Daily work offline?

The challenge is derived from the date itself, so every device computes the same one without asking a server. Everyone on Earth gets the same challenge on the same day.

How do duels work?

You share a link; your friend races your ghost over an identical sequence. The whole challenge is encoded in the link, so there is no account, no server, and no lobby.

Why does my score drop later in a session?

That is the point of Deep Sessions — they measure your start and end segments separately so you can see fatigue land. A drop is data, not a bug.

Does a higher score mean I’m healthier?

No. Layra is a training and measurement tool, not a medical device, and makes no health claims. Treat your score as a number about a specific task, nothing more.
